Hello and welcome to Sequential Therapy. I’m finally sitting down to type this inaugural post after nearly eight years of anticipation (read, sitting on a domain name without using it for the better part of a decade). Sequential Therapy has been sitting patiently on the backburner while I had hands full with the hustle of my doctoral thesis, surviving the viva, and then diving into the chaos of setting up and running my therapy practice in London. Amidst it all, the idea of following up my doctoral research by setting up this space lingered in the background.
Life hasn’t exactly eased up, but it’s high time to kick things into gear and get Sequential Therapy up and running. The goal here is simple: to dive into the incredible potential of sequential art for exploring the depths of the human psyche. Whether it’s graphic novels, zines, webcomics, or any other form of sequential therapy, this is a space to appreciate, experiment with, and take seriously a truly wonderful medium.
Initially, I’d imagined this would be an online spot for therapists interested in applying sequential art to their clinical practice. Things took an interesting turn when Jonny Williams from the Economist got in touch with me for an interview. During a really interesting chat that turned out to be about four times longer than Jonny had anticipated (sorry Jonny) there was a moment where he expressed mild frustration that there was “no clearing house for this subject.” While we might not be a clearing house, Sequential Therapy is undeniably a ‘somewhere’ – a place for ideas to mingle, conversations to spark, and for sequential art in therapy to find its spotlight.
I’m really excited to share this space with you, a place where creativity flows, discussions unfold naturally, and where sequential therapy becomes a valuable tool for understanding our mental landscapes. Here’s to new beginnings!
